John Lennon’s army of fans have signed a petition begging a parole board to keep his killer behind bars. Mark David Chapman, the man responsible for the former Bealte’s death, is serving a 20 years life sentence at New York’s Attica Correctional Facility for murdering the pop star outside his Manhattan home in 1980. He has been rejected for parole four times, and is due to face a board again next week. Officials reveal they have been sent 50 letters and a 1,100 name petition opposing his release and just three letters calling for him to be freed. Robert Gangi, from prisoner advocacy group Correction Association of New York, told a New York newspaper, “I’m surprised that he actually has three letters, given the number of Beatles fans in the world.”
